Hinojosa,
Who is Chef Tonni?
Chef Antonio “Tonni” Hinojosa is a veteran of the restaurant industry
for over 23 years. An advocate of spicy, well-flavored food, Tonni
sought out to create his own signature blend of spices and ingredients,
thus Hinospices was born. With a goal of imparting flavor into all
foods, Hinospices truly is “spices for the species.”
Born and raised in College Station, Texas, Tonni had always had a
penchant for cooking and grilling. He decided to hone in on his craft
and pursue his passion professionally when he attended the Texas State
Technical College where he earned a degree in Applied Science in
Foodservice/Culinary Arts. However most of his skills he learned through
trial and error in the kitchen. Along his illustrious career in the
restaurant industry, Tonni has been the chef at Tavern on Chimney Hill
in College Station, where he designed the menu with his own signature
dishes and was the Sous Chef at the Hilton in College Station.
Hinospices was the brainchild of Tonni when he one day had a sudden
epiphany while looking at spice selection in his local supermarket. Come
to find out, the number one ingredient in most spices and rubs is salt.
Tonni, who is not a fan of salt and tries to keep it out of his diet as
much as he can, decided that he could come up with a rub that packs just
as much gusto, if not more, than the everyday rub. While developing what
is now Hinopices, Tonni traveled all over the east and west coasts
including Hawaii and Jamaica to find flavors, fragrances and aromas that
he had never experienced before in the hopes of successfully fusing them
with his meats and vegetables. He is in the kitchen every day trying out
various blends of flavors and spices, working insufferably to find the
next exciting rub that will spark the palate.
When not concocting in the kitchen, Tonni is also the administrative arm
of Hinospices. He does everything from returning emails and phone calls,
receiving and shipping the orders and even acts as the customer service
department where he can answer any and all questions pertaining to his
products. Tonni also finds time to participate in local food festivals
where he placed first in chicken and brisket at the 2009 Second Annual
Bilyfest and also received
an honorable mention for his brisket at the 1998 Go Texan Cook-Off.
Tonni loves the fact that he created a product that everyone can enjoy
and lives daily by his favorite quote “may all of your cooking dreams
come true.”
Tonni resides in Buda, TX where he also belongs to his town’s chapter of
Ducks Unlimited and serves as a Committee Member. Even when not at work
Tonni loves cooking whether it is indoors or out on the grill, and loves
to combine his Hispanic heritage and love for spirits and malt beverages
in his recipes. He also enjoys golfing, puzzles and any outdoor
activity, especially entertaining his numerous guests on his patio with
his delicious food.
